The Gulf Coast

When holiday makers and travellers talk about the South and the Gulf coast people automatically think of Koh Samui and the famous Full Moon Parties of Koh Phangan its neighbouring island. But these aren’t the only jewels in the crown of the Gulf, the popular Chumphon, the provincial capital is also another popular destination and growing with popularity with scuba divers seeking the quieter dive sites but just as dazzling as some of the sites offered at Koh Tao which is the number one dive destination in the Gulf.
Take a trip inland and find the popular destination for the Thai families wishing to get away from the busy Bangkok at Hua Hin.  However Hua Hin is not only a popular destination with the Thai people as it grows in popularity with the older western traveller with it lush golf courses and laid back atmosphere.

Getting back to Samui, now one of Thailand’s most popular holiday destinations has everything to offer. Still much of the island is unspoilt and many of its beaches remain quiet and discrete but that is not why the average holiday maker heads for Samui.  Boasting some of the finest resorts and spas to offer in Asia let alone Thailand Samui is becoming increasingly popular with holiday makers wishing to pamper themselves and enjoy a life of luxury before they head back to the hectic everyday life they are so well used to. Samui also offers some great activities and a vibrant nightlife which is more suited to couples and the younger generation. Also being neighbour to Koh Phangan, home to the Full Moon Party, it is often a stop off for backpackers heading to the once a month mayhem.

Going back to the mainland though and to the town of Nakhon Si Thammarat which is well worth a visit for its grand temples and exquisite cuisine. Nakhon is easily access from many different routes with regular bus services running. This is also the last port of call before heading into Thailand’s Deep South where the culture and feel changes again yet again.
