The Deep South

If Issan is the least visited part of the north then the Deep South is definitely the least visited and developed part of southern Thailand.  Many parts of southern Thailand are not safe to travel in for local people let alone westerners. Due to politics there is much controversy and big problems in the Deep South. Most western governments are advising travelers to avoid Thailand, especially the southern regions such as Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat. This part of Thailand is predominantly Muslim and a large proportion of the inhabitants are more akin to Malay.
